Help choose the cover of FRENZY!

Frenzy is the sixth book in the Dreamhouse Kings, the best-selling action-adventure series for young adults. For the cover, we've decided to show the King family framed by the light of a portal door. The challenge now is selecting just the right color. Tell me what you think! By participating, you'll be entered into a drawing for a personalized copy of Frenzy. The winner will get a hot-off-the-presses copy before it's available in stores. Thanks for your help!

UPDATE: The blue/green cover won with 80% of the votes! Brooke from Canada won the drawing for the personalized copy of Frenzy. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO VOTES, AND I TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS.

We've come up with a stunning design that actually incorporates colors from both covers. I'll post it soon.

Hi Bob,
I love Green! And, you already have a book cover with a goldish color; so, I say go green. I finally started the 2nd book in the King line and am loving it! Got to chpt 30 in a day and a half. Wish I had more time to spend reading. Good luck cousin...

G'Day Bob!!!

The beigy looking cover 'fits...' BUT... the green one gives the book amazing ZING... and clashes most wonderfully with the more blander colours :)

P.S. The cover of whirlwind looks smashing!

Love your Aussie Sis/Fiend/Reader

Having a tough time deciding this one. The gold stands out more, but the green goes with the colors of the rest of the series, so I have to say green.

P.S. Love your books! Last year I told a friend from school I was at the bookstore and they told me to get House of Dark Shadows. I read it all the way home, and now I have all four books. Can't wait for Whirlwind!

Dear Mr. Liparulo,

I would use the green because Whirlwind is blue. The gold yellow is from Watcher In The woods, and so if it were me, I would keep them slightly different colors. I can't wait to read Whirlwind and Frenzy!

Blessings!
Carol :)

I agree. Green stands alone much better than the tan/beige. It would too easily get confused with the cover of Watcher in the Woods.

Your books are great. I put in a request at the library for them to add them to their collection. I always want the next one to come out sooner than it does.

Thanks for all of your hardwork.

Green! The gold is too similar to a previous cover, IMHO.

Blogger Mark said...

the blue/green definitely

Blogger herblady said...

Going by which color appeals to me more, I would say the blue/green, but to get across the feeling of frenzy, I think it should be more along the red/orange range, because that better depicts anxiety, rage & agitation. JMHO. lol

Blogger Deanna said...

It was a tough choice, but when you line them all up on the shelf I think you have to go with the green to make this one stand on its own. Can't wait to read this one!

I like the blue/green cover the best. Sometimes while looking for a book to purchase, the colour is what I notice first.

Anonymous fictionfan1@cox.net said...

I like the blue/green because it's much different than your other covers. The gold cover is quite similar to Watcher in the Woods.

Blogger Ronie Kendig said...

I like the green version. The gold is too much like The Watcher in the Woods and you may end up confusing your readers. I think the scroll work on the gold is stronger, more defined, but still think it's too similar to the W/W.

Blogger alex said...

I like the blue/green cover it sticks out more makes the book look more exciting!! :D

Besides the fact Green is my favorite color, you should definatley choose green. ^^

You already have a golden colored book, and there isn't a green one, so.... yeah

Blogger Lalycairn said...

I'm with the green as well. I think when you put it with the others, it needs its own stand-alone color and you already have a goldish colored one. :)

Blogger Lindsey Nobles said...

Think the Gold cover looks too much like Watcher in the Woods. I'd go with the Green.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey Bob,

I think they both look terrific but I agree with most- the blue/green cover pops and is different from the rest. Your illustrator is terrific!! We are so proud of you!!! Blessings to your precious family.

The yellow/gold cover is too similar to the "Watcher in the Woods" cover. I say go with the blue/green cover.

Blogger Barbara M. Hodges said...

I love the yellow. It caught my eye and that's what you want to do.

Anonymous Marysol said...

Green has the pop needed but still fits. Yellow might make me think its #2 in the series and I pass it up.

Anonymous evan hartfield said...

I personally think the blue/green is a bit more inviting.

A blue cover would be a little too subdued and would blend in with the rest of a bookstore's bookshelf. The yellow/Gold would definately stand out, but it wouldn't be as inviting as a cooler color would. The warmth of the cover just kinda pushes the viewer away from it.

But the bright and bold green color draws the viewer in. The brightness of the color makes the book pop out from a line-up of other book covers on a bookshelf, AND it's cooler undertone is soothing and invites readers in.

That's why I chose the green cover selection

Blogger Josh said...

I'm agreeing with the above majority. The yellow/gold is too much like Watcher in the Woods. The blue/green cover is more haunting, more ethereal.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

The green cover is really nice and I thought I would like it better than the gold, but I actually think it's looking a little too sci-fi; I would almost expect it to be about martians from outer space or something. =P
I do agree with the others that the gold cover is very similar to Watcher in the Woods, but hm... I wish I hadn't voted already! =P I'm starting to second guess myself! Oh well. =)

Bob...

Thanks for getting your readers input on the book cover color; that's one of the reasons why you're one of America's favorite authors!

As for me, I say...Go Green!

Anonymous Estevan Vega said...

Dude, the green is cooler. You already have a gold one, but no green one. Plus, the green is kind of mysterious.

Blogger Drew said...

I liked the Gold best but voted for Green(as u already used Gold)

Anonymous Pam said...

I am in agreement with the majority of comments for much the same reasons - go green.

Blogger Crystal Laine Miller said...

I'm with those who said green. That's my vote, too!

Crystal

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow, I must be the minority. LOL. I def. voted for the yellowish-gold one. Both are nice though so of course either one is good, I just happened to like the gold one better.

Blogger Kristinia - Loving Heart Mommy said...

Definately the green! Love your books!

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think the blue/green to keep it different from the others. Yellow gold looks too much like Watcher in the Woods.

Blogger Janna said...

I have to echo some of the other comments...

The gold is too much a repeat of Watcher in the Woods - if those are the only two options you have to go with the green!

Blogger Pais Charos said...

I say definitely green!

Connie

Blogger GirlwiththeBraids said...

I agree. The blue/green is the best! The color of the second one is too much like Watcher in the Woods.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

LOVE THE GREEN!

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Aside from the fact that green is my favorite color. The green cover is different from the other covers. I noticed that each of the covers features a different color and with the green it would be obvious that it's Frenzy.

Blogger Christina Berry said...

I'm from Oregon so I HAVE to say, "Go green!" :-)

OpenID thetwitchycamel said...

That's a tough choice. In the end, I too went for blue/green, for all of the reasons mentioned by the other posters.

However, the golden one does hold its own kind of appeal. Plus, I see what one poster meant when they said the green one made them think of aliens.

But the truth of the matter is...I like the green one better. Just barely.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like the blue green one better

Blogger Theresa said...

My vote is for the green cover...not least because that's one of my favorite colors!

Blogger Emory said...

Definately green! You don't have a greenish color yet and I think that it looks a lot cooler! Also you already have several books with the yellowish brown color :)

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think you should go with the green. The other one seems too much like book 2. It would be best if you had the covers different so they are distinctive from one another

Anonymous Anonymous said...

They both are really cool!!! But, personally, I think that the yellow one goes more with the series covers until "Whirlwind". So I'm torn, but I like the Green one better!!

Blogger brendalottakamaggiebrendan said...

I see that I'm totally outnumbered, but I thought the gold had Zing! There was too much green in the other choice. IMHO.

Blogger Deena said...

Blue/green, definitely:-)

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Looks like I'm with the majority. I love the blue/green one. As others have said you already have a goldish one and the bg adds a nice pop to the art.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have to agree with Val the green looks better. you already have one that is simmilar and with the colors you have so far the green would be best.

Anonymous Carol Spires said...

Hi, Bob! I sent House of Dark Shadows to Devon/Joe's boys and they loved it!
For Frenzy, I chose green; a nice change-up from several of your others -- and more like Florida!
Carol

OpenID mluce2008 said...

HI! I really like the green one! I tend to go for books that stand out more than the others and that green one really does. Floridians love green! :)

Anonymous Kim said...

I love the green but would go the tan I just think it looks more coming out or going into the light.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I would definitely have to go with the green one. There's already a goldish one in the series. Either one would stand out to me, but the blue/green one is such a pretty colour.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I vote green so it's not the same color as Watcher in the Woods.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

How about black...

Blogger Osmosis said...

The green kinda bookends the first book which has a green cast to the sky.

Blogger bigguysmama said...

I like the green, although I'd pull the green out of the color of "House of Dark Shadows". It seems like it would need to be a deeper green, or something. More dull? I don't know, can't put my finger on it. Mostly being too picky We all have our opinions, don't we? :)

Anonymous Average Joe American said...

GREEN!

Anonymous Linda said...

The Blue/Green is more eerie than the gold/yellow. So go with blue/green.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

the blue green makes it look mysterious and powerful. like the ocean, while the yellow makes it to happy for me.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Blue/Green seems to be going a long with the theme. Starting with Brown (like dead leaves)to tan, to brown and tan again, then a mauve color, then to blue...going to Green(representing life)makes the most sense.

Anonymous Bradley Curtwright said...

I say go with the green it just looks better. Plus it is differnet from the rest.

Blogger HollyMag said...

I to prefer the green cover... you've used a brown one it just adds to the spectrum of color!

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I too, prefer the green cover, but Frenzy and the gold/yellow fit better. It's a high energy name with a high energy color!!!

Blogger ladystorm said...

I really like both, but something about the Gold/yellow that just really catches my attention. I would be more likely to pick it up at a bookstore and read what it was about that the blue/green one.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Green...definately! So much more appealing. I was drawn to it right away.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey, I like both covers, but the blue green one stuck out to me because The Watcher In The Woods is very similar to the yellow gold one. I haven't read your work before, but these sound really interesting, and I'd love to give it a shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like both of them...but Watcher in the Woods is already yellow and gold ~ so in my opinion it would seem more creative to go with the blue and green because it will be a brand new idea cover wise.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Wow that is a tough call! I love the color of the green one BUT the YELLOW/GOLD one makes all the people on the cover pop! In the green one you are drawn to just the few in the front, where as the gold draws you to all the people!! Good luck choosing!!! :)
Jackie :)

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I vote for the green cover! I love the tan one, but it rather resembles the cover for Watcher in the Woods. Green :)

Blogger David said...

I like the green/blue one, personally...

Blogger Hope Chastain said...

Red would have been good, too. Consensus seems to be largely the green one. I like it better than the other, too. :-)

Go green!

Blogger cathikin said...

I like both, but I agree that the green would be better because it keeps the coves distinct from each other. It stands out.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

i like them both alot but i think since there's already one that has the similar color as the other. you should go with the green one.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like the green the best. I teach middle school and I think my students would like that best too. They would like the brighter color.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I like the blue greenish cover.....BTW...big fan! I have only read 2 of you're books in this series..most unfortunate..=C But I am trying to find more copies of the books. I really want to know what happens next!

When will the drawing happen?

Blogger Robert Liparulo said...

I'm sorry I didn't announce it here (I have so many places now where I'm communicating with people--the main website, Facebook, for example, I forgot this one), but we held the drawing on Aug. 20, and Brooke of Manitoba, Canada won. THANK ALL OF YOU WHO VOTED! The blue-green version won 80% to 20%. We think we came up with a nice blending of the two covers and I'll be posting that soon.
