The first two "Dream the Scene" winners . . . and more chances to win!

UPDATE: WE'VE EXTENDED THE DEADLINE! SEE BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS...

I've selected the first two winners of the "Dream the Scene" contest!
(If you don't know about the contest yet, click here.) Congratulations to:

Joshua Ruark, age 13, who suggested the King kids should walk through a portal into ninth-century England, during the Viking raid on Alfred the Great's castle. There, they face a bloodthirsty berserker.

Katie O'Dell, also 13, who thought the Kings should suddenly find themselves on the deck of the Titanic, as it's sinking.

Joshua and Katie will receive iPod Nanos.

You'll be able to read these adventures (and many others) in Timescape (June 2009). What leads them to each world is almost as incredible as the things they do once they're in the midst of them. And head's-up: Our bad guy, Taksidian, is turning up the heat. He's making the King family's life in the house as scary and dangerous as the worlds they find through the upstairs doors!

More chances to win!

We've had so much fun reading the "Dream the Scene" entries, my publisher and I have decided to add two more chances to win. Instead of four total winners, six contestants will now win iPod Nanos. So we've extend the contest deadline to at least September 15, 2009 (we've had such a great response, we're looking for ways to keep it going, so check back to see if we've pushed the deadline even further down the calendar). Entries will be considered for extended Dreamhouse adventures—either in future books or in special online stories. So send 'em in!

Some hints to make your ideas really stand out:

• The more details you provide, the better. That way, if more than one person suggest the same adventure, the winner will be the one who gives me the most details that I'm able to work into the story.

• Make the place where they go and the people they meet real. The story is so wild as it is, we don't want the Kings bumping into Bugs Bunny! They don't have to meet famous people, but who they do run into should have possibly existed.

• Entries can be in any form that works for you: rough sentences, bullet-points, crayon drawings—anything that gets your idea across.

• You may submit as many ideas as you'd like.

• Most important: have fun!

I thought of another question: Can I MAIL my idea to you (I have a drawing)?

Blogger Robert Liparulo said...

Yes, Jeffery, my mailing address is:

590 Highway 105, Suite 136
Monument CO 80132

Looking forward to seeing your entry.

Some groups (such as classrooms) have found it easier to snail-mail entries from a bunch of different people to me, rather than send them over the Internet. That's the address to do it.

Take care!

Congrats! I'm new to your work, Mr. Liparulo, but I've read Germ and all of the Dreamhouse Kings books this month and wow!-- I wish I had discovered you sooner. And there will be another three books in the series... very good. I'm going to have to stop by my local bookstore and read your other books soon!

Yo! I just finished reading Gatekeepers last night. It was WONDERFUL. Though the ending totally creeped me out. I want to be a writer like you when I'm older! :) :) :)

P.S
.... *looks around*
...
ok I think its safe.

My favorite character is Taksidian.

Hi, Sammie-Juno. Thanks for the kind words. Do you want to write creepy stories, too? Taksidian, huh? He's one nasty dude. More so in Timescape (book four). A lot of people said their favorite character in Comes a Horseman is Olaf, and he's an assassin too! Wonder what that says about me, that I write likable bad guy.

As a mom I loved the Dreamhouse King books and can't wait for the next one - I grew up on Stephen King as there wasn't a lot of YA "creepy" books back then. I received Gatekeepers as an arc - and read the first two through our library. I am considering this set for my nephew as he is a voracious reader! Keep 'em coming!

Found this site through Relz Reviewz!

Is the contest open till 15 August 2009 or 2008 :(?

Blogger Robert Liparulo said...

The contest is open till August 15, 2009--the entries received between now and them will be considered for inclusion in either the NEXT Dreamhouse book series or a special online extension of the story after all six of the current series is out. Either way, there will be two winners (besides the four that will be in the current series) and each will receive an iPod. So...send me your ideas!

I love all of the Dreamhouse Kings books! I finished Timesacpe the other day and it was awesome! I LOVED the ending! I can't wait for Windwirl! I just ordered germ, deadfall, and deadlock. You are a fantastic writer! Up there you mention a special online story, did you write it yet, if so were can I read it? The dreamhouse kings series is definitely the best series I have ever read, never stop being awesome, and go David!!!:D

Thank you, Taylor! I hope you like the other books...very different from the Dreamhouse series. Let me know what you think. No, I haven't written the online stories yet. I have them outlines, but I'm waiting to see if we're going to continue the Kings' adventures with another series after Frenzy.

Enjoy the adventure!
Robert
